“Drawing faithfully captures moments of time and using a medium as unassuming as the graphite pencil I can work delicately but also more boldly to create depth and tonality. Some of the drawings took as long as five days in good weather while others were made over two or three days in wind and rain resulting in an interesting variety of expression and a literal recording of my experience on the edge of the river. The Royal Society of Painter Printmakers kindly recommended me to the Hosking Houses Trust whose visionary sponsors have included Dame Emma Thompson and Tracey Emin in support of this significant residency for women writers and artists of a certain age. So began my seven week residency in the Tudor village of Clifford Chambers (listed in the Domesday Book of 1086), a place steeped in Shakespeare, poetry and magic”.
